Upon learning that his father has been kidnapped, Austin Powers must travel to 1975 and defeat the aptly named villain Goldmember, who is working with Dr. Evil. He's found his mojo, baby, and now Austin Powers is back again in this shagadelic comedy-adventure! The "sshhh!" hits the fan when Dr. Evil and Mini-Me escape from prison. Joining forces with the superfreaky Goldmember, they kidnap Austin's father, master spy Nigel Powers, in a dastardly time-travel scheme to take over the world. Before you can say "Shake Your Booty," Austin cruises to 1975 and teams up with sexy Foxxy Cleopatra to stop Dr. Evil and Goldmember from their mischievous mayhem. Its funny, I read most of the reviews for this film before seeing it. I dont usually do that because you get someone elses opinion stuck in your head while your watching it.<br/><br/>When you make a franchise such as austin powers, people will ultimately compare the recent film to the last in order to critique it. I had watched both austin powers films before seeing Goldmember, The first one has a few small jokes that dont work…the second one tries very hard to be funny, whilst still having a plot. And the third seems to totally forget a plot and just try to link the jokes up. Most of the lines falling flat. When you do laugh, you laugh hard.. but its too far between laughs. The musical numbers didnt work in No. 2 why did they think they would work in 3? I could hear a cricket there was that much silence.<br/><br/>The mole character's interactions with members of the cast proves its biggest laugh point. and Fat bastard is gross yes, but he actually helps ease the flow of stale humour. The opening musical number as the credits roll stinks. It was done much better in 2. Overall, if this didnt have the "austin powers" name on the script it would have been straight to video. I didnt totally hate it, I just didnt like it.<br/><br/>** out of five "Austin Powers In Goldmember" was hilarious. But I still think that the first two installments were funnier. Mike Myers is a great comedian and he is funny in just about everything he's in. I loved the storyline to this movie and it had some great jokes. All the actors gave great performances but I didn't think the character of Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyonce` Knowles) was as funny as Felicity Shagwell or Elizabeth Hurley in the first Austin Powers. But I liked her. Austin, Dr. Evil, and Fat Bastard were still hilarious and Goldmember was funny but he didn't make me laugh as much the other guys did. I loved all the cameos and the sequence with Tom Cruise at the beginning of the movie cracked me up. Mini-Me was still great and Michael Cain gave a satirical performance as well. I thoroughly liked this movie and I'm glad that I own it on DVD now. But thanks for reading my review!! Bye!! Nothing to write home about, though nothing to stay home about either, especially if you're a dyed-in-the-polyester Powers fan.
